With such a musical father, Alan Barton, Dean has been immersed in the music business since an early age. Dean was encouraged to play the guitar and develop his promising voice, this has matured into tones reminiscent of both his father Alan, and original frontman Chris Norman.

A typical ‘Rock and Roller’ Dean is the perfect choice to front the band. With his enthusiasm and dedication, playing and singing the original hits of Smokie with Spirit and Style.

As a prolific songwriter he has songs on Bravo Hits including ‘Hard to Understand’ which reached No1 in the charts! He also sang ‘Think about the Night’ on the Smokie album titled ‘Lay Back In the Arms of Smokie’.

His solo album “Gravity”, which is full of unique songs and rich in variety showcases the softer side of his powerful and emotional voice.

Graham’s love of the songs of Smokie, his solid playing and strong vocals make him a perfect candidate for ‘Spirit of Smokie’. Well liked and well known to Smokie fans he shared lead vocals with Alan Silson.

His early musical career started aged 18 with the ‘Rockabilly Rebs’ who released two albums and a single. He recorded with Paul McCartney’s Musicians at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios, in London and went on to Tour Europe and the US with many bands including ‘Sad Café’, ‘Bauhaus’, ‘Kid Ego’ and ‘Sisters of Mercy’. Later in his career he met Andy Whelan and Alan Barton (Smokie) with whom he toured and recorded.

A long-time touring member of the ‘British Eagles’ he completed a European tour with top US country singer/songwriter Gail Davies.

Graham’s slick bass playing combines seamlessly with Mick’s inspirational drumming to produce a world class ‘rhythm section’.

Andy is recognised as a supremely talented guitarist. As well as being a great session player he also feels at home when playing live, his stage presence is always rockin!

Although Andy’s first love is country music he enjoys playing all styles on a combination of stringed instruments. Among many talented artists, he has played and recorded for: Chris Norman (Smokie) ‘Growing Years’ & ‘Jealous Heart’ albums, Chris Norman / Suzi Quattro ‘I need your love’ album, Alan Barton (Smokie) ‘Precious’ album, Alan Silson (Smokie) ‘Solitary Bird’ album, Dean Barton ‘Gravity’ album. He has toured with top US country artists George Hamilton IV, Gail Davies and James House.

He wrote ‘One More Dance’ for Smokie and recorded ‘Walking in the Rain’ for John Lennon’s wife Cynthia. As a long-time member of the British Eagles he was invited by Elton John to play at his 40th birthday party – Praise indeed!!!!

Mick began playing drums at the tender age of 11 and by the age of 13 he was involved in regular shows, gaining valuable experience. Whilst studying at the famous Leeds College of Music, his skills were in demand 5 nights a week for various artists; this led to his first professional tour with hit recording artist ‘Labi Siffre’.

After graduating he went on to tour with world-famous bands/artists including Tears for Fears, Chris de Burgh and Alan Stivell, and worked in a “house band” performing alongside the likes of Sting, Gary Barlow and the National Youth Theatre.

Mick has toured and recorded with many artists including DJ Sammy, Chumbawumba and Tasmin Archer and is featured in the studio sessions on the blockbuster worldwide hits (“TUB Thumping”; “I Get Knocked Down but I Get Up Again”/ Chumbawumba and “Sleeping Satellite”/ Tasmin Archer).

Working alongside Graham creating a fantastic rhythm section, which is the foundation to any great band.

Based in Manchester, Jez has been playing piano and keyboards since the age of 7. His professional career began in 1977 with bands including Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders who enjoyed chart success in the UK and USA.

Having performed extensively in many different styles and genres, since 2008, Jez has also been a full member of the classic progressive rock band John Lees’ Barclay James Harvest, with whom he continues to record and perform throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Japan.

Jez has featured in a number of musical collaborations with renowned singer-songwriter-guitar player, Clive Gregson, who also produced the Bands album ‘Changes’. Following a recommendation by Clive, Jez became a member of ‘Spirit of Smokie’ in 2019.
